Early Life and Dreams
Betty Zhou was born in Jiangsu, a province in China. When she was a young girl, she dreamed of being a journalist. She even thought about becoming a war correspondent, a reporter who travels to dangerous places to cover news stories.
Later, she decided she wanted to be an actress instead. To follow this new dream, she went to study acting at Shanghai Normal University's Xie Jin Film & Television Art College.
Career Journey
Starting in Singapore
Even before she finished college in 2007, Betty's career began. A production company from another country noticed her talent and asked her to star in a TV show called Adventure Girls. This was a travel show where Betty and her co-host went on exciting adventures in countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. They did activities like bungee jumping, diving, and rock climbing.
To prepare for the show, she moved to Singapore and learned to speak English fluently. She also starred in the movie Kung Fu Killer. Betty became well-known in Singapore, appearing in many magazines and TV shows. She was the only actress from China at the time to have a main role in a show that was in English.
Becoming an NBA Host
After a few years, Betty met the famous singer David Tao, who offered her a job back in China. This led to an amazing opportunity: hosting NBA basketball shows in her home country, where basketball is extremely popular.
Even though she didn't know much about basketball at first, Betty accepted the challenge. She worked very hard, studying the sport and learning all the rules and terms to become a great host. She also taught herself Cantonese so she could appear on shows in Hong Kong. In 2013, she began hosting NBA shows on Chinese Central Television, and people were impressed with how much she knew about the game.
Talking to Hollywood
In 2015, Betty started her own show, Talking to Hollywood with Betty Zhou. The show was made with help from famous movie studios like Paramount Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, Universal Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
