Beuchat International, often called just Beuchat, is a company that creates and sells equipment for underwater adventures. It began in 1934 in Marseille, France. The founder was Georges Beuchat, whose family had a history of making watches.
Georges Beuchat was a real pioneer in exploring the underwater world. He even helped start the French Underwater Federation in 1948. Over its long history, Beuchat has used different brand names like "Pêche Sport" and "Tarzan."
Georges Beuchat sold the company in 1982. Today, the Margnat family owns it, having taken over in 2002. Beuchat is a global company. From the very beginning, Georges Beuchat sold his products all over the world. In the 1970s, he designed the cool swordfish logo that you can still see on all their products today.

What Beuchat Makes
Beuchat focuses on three main types of underwater gear:
- Scuba diving: This includes equipment for fun diving, professional work underwater, and even military diving.
- Spearfishing and freediving: Gear for catching fish with a spear while holding your breath, or just diving deep without tanks.
- Snorkeling: Simple equipment for swimming on the surface and looking at what's below.
Beuchat's Cool Inventions Over Time
Beuchat has invented many important things for divers over the years. Here are some of their key moments:
- 1934: The company officially started in Marseille, France.
- 1947: They created the Tarzan Speargun, a tool for spearfishing.
- 1950: Beuchat made a special housing for cameras, so people could take pictures underwater. They also made a calf sheath for diving knives.
- 1953: A big invention! Beuchat made the first isothermic wetsuit. This suit helps divers stay warm in cold water.
- 1958: They introduced the Compensator, a single-window mask that was very popular.
- 1963: The famous Tarzan wetsuit was released.
- 1964: Beuchat launched the Jetfins. These were the first fins with vents, and they sold over 100,000 pairs very quickly! They also released the Souplair regulator, which helps divers breathe underwater.
- 1975: The Marlin speargun was introduced.
- 1998: Beuchat created the CX1, which was the first French diving computer. This device helps divers track their depth and dive time safely.
- 2001: They released the Mundial Spearfishing fins, designed for spearfishing.
- 2007: The Focea Comfort II wetsuit came out, known for being very comfortable.
- 2009: Beuchat celebrated its 75th anniversary!
Spearfishing Champions
Since it began, Beuchat has made excellent spearfishing gear. Many famous spearfishers have used their equipment to win national and international competitions. Some of these champions include Pedro Carbonell, Sylvain Pioch, and Pierre Roy.
