Beuchat International, often called Beuchat, is a company that designs and makes equipment for underwater activities. It started in 1934 in Marseille, France. The founder was Georges Beuchat, whose family came from Swiss watchmakers.
Georges Beuchat was a true pioneer in exploring the underwater world. He even helped start the French Underwater Federation in 1948. Over its many years, the company has used different brand names. Some of these include "Pêche Sport", "Tarzan", and "Beuchat Sub".
Georges Beuchat sold the company in 1982. Today, the Margnat family owns it, taking over in 2002. Beuchat is a global company. From the very beginning, Georges Beuchat sold his products all over the world. In the 1970s, he created the cool swordfish logo. You can still see this logo on all their products today.

What Beuchat Makes
Beuchat creates gear for three main types of underwater fun:
- Scuba diving: This includes gear for diving just for fun, for professional divers, and even for military divers.
- Spearfishing and freediving: This is for hunting fish underwater or holding your breath to explore.
- Snorkeling: This is for swimming on the surface with a mask and snorkel.
Beuchat's Cool Inventions Over Time
Beuchat has invented many important pieces of diving equipment. Here are some of their key inventions:
- 1934: The company officially started in Marseille, France.
- 1947: They created the Tarzan Speargun.
- 1950: Beuchat made a special housing for cameras to be used underwater. They also made a calf sheath for diving knives.
- 1953: A big invention! Beuchat made the first isothermic wetsuit. This suit helps divers stay warm underwater.
- 1958: They introduced the Compensator, which was a single-window diving mask.
- 1963: The famous Tarzan wetsuit was released.
- 1964: Beuchat invented the Jetfins. These were the first fins with vents, and they sold over 100,000 pairs very quickly! They also released the Souplair regulator.
- 1975: The Marlin speargun was introduced.
- 1998: Beuchat launched the CX1. This was the first French diving computer, helping divers track their dives safely.
- 2001: They released the Mundial Spearfishing fins.
- 2009: Beuchat celebrated its 75th anniversary!
Spearfishing Champions
Since it began, Beuchat has made excellent spearfishing equipment. This gear has helped many spearfishers win national and international titles. Some famous names include Pedro Carbonell and Sylvain Pioch.
Interesting Fact
The "S" in the Scubapro logo was inspired by Beuchat's "Souplair" regulator.
