Interestingly, the town was actually meant to be named "Berent" after a lawyer. But a mistake happened when the name was written down. Because of this, it was officially called Bevent.
Many people who settled in this part of Marathon County came from Poland. They were immigrants looking for a new home.
Their religion was very important to these early settlers and their families. You could see this in the many small shrines built along the roads. Families and even whole church groups used to visit these shrines. This was a special part of their religious holidays.
