About Bhanwar Lal Sharma

His Early Life

Bhanwar Lal Sharma was born on April 17, 1945, in Sardarshahar. He was the oldest son of Sewak Ram Sharma. He grew up in a simple family and faced challenges. He left school after finishing 10th grade. Later, he was adopted by Maanak Ram Sharma, a relative. Maanak Ram Sharma was a sales officer and helped Bhanwar Lal Sharma start his political journey. Bhanwar Lal Sharma was a strict vegetarian.

He was married to Mrs. Manohari Devi. She came from the Nohar area. They had two sons, Anil Kumar Sharma and Keshari Chand Sharma. They also had two daughters, Tara Sharma and Indra Sharma.

Working for the Community

Bhanwar Lal Sharma was also the President of the Rajasthan Brahmin Maha Sabha. He held this position from 1994 to 2000 and again from 2002. This group is a large social organization for Brahmins in Rajasthan. It helps about 7.5 million people.

As president, he bought land from the Rajasthan government. He then built a Boys Hostel for students. This hostel helped young people from different parts of Rajasthan. It gave them a place to stay while they studied. He also built a guesthouse for members of the Brahmin community.

Sharma believed that opportunities should be based on economic need, not on a person's caste. He organized many meetings and rallies to share this idea. These events took place in cities like Sikar, Bikaner, Alwar, and Jaipur.

He also helped build several temples. These included Shree Shyam Temple, Ramdev Temple, Thakur Ji Temple, and Shivalay.

His Political Journey

Bhanwar Lal Sharma had a long political career. He started as a Sarpanch (village head) in Jaitsisar from 1962 to 1982. Then, he became the Pradhan (head) of the Panchayat Samiti (local council) in Sardarshahar from 1982 to 1985.

From 1985 until 2022, he was a Member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly (MLA). He also served as Deputy Chief Whip from March 1990 to October 1990. From 1990 to 1992, he was a Cabinet Minister. In this role, he oversaw the Indira Gandhi Canal Pariyojna. His wife, Manohari Devi, also had a political background. She was a member of the Panchayat Samiti and a Sarpanch. She also served as Pradhan of Panchayat Samiti, Sardarshahar. Sharma's political approach was simple: "Say Clear." This meant being direct and honest.

Major Achievements

Aapni Yojna Project

One of Sharma's big achievements was helping to start the Aapni Yojna project. As the Indira Gandhi Canal minister, he signed an agreement with the German government for this project. Aapni Yojna was designed to provide safe and clean drinking water. It focused on the Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Hanumangarh districts.

The first part of Aapni Yojna covered 370 villages. It also included two towns, Taranagar and Sardarshahar, in Churu. Thanks to this project, villages now have water available 24 hours a day. The payment methods for water are simple. Each village has one meter, and people pay their share.

This project brought many benefits. Health and hygiene improved in the villages. People became more aware of clean living. The economy also grew as women started new activities to earn money. Villagers also became more involved in keeping the water system working well. Today, Aapni Yojna is very important for providing drinking water in these districts.
