Major Achievements
Aapni Yojna Project
One of Sharma's big achievements was helping to start the Aapni Yojna project. As the Indira Gandhi Canal minister, he signed an agreement with the German government for this project. Aapni Yojna was designed to provide safe and clean drinking water. It focused on the Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Hanumangarh districts.
The first part of Aapni Yojna covered 370 villages. It also included two towns, Taranagar and Sardarshahar, in Churu. Thanks to this project, villages now have water available 24 hours a day. The payment methods for water are simple. Each village has one meter, and people pay their share.
This project brought many benefits. Health and hygiene improved in the villages. People became more aware of clean living. The economy also grew as women started new activities to earn money. Villagers also became more involved in keeping the water system working well. Today, Aapni Yojna is very important for providing drinking water in these districts.
