Bianca Xunise is an American cartoonist and illustrator. She describes herself as a "goth of color." Her drawings and comics are seen all over the country because they are part of the Six Chix comic strip. This means her work is published in many newspapers at the same time.

Early Life and Art

Bianca Xunise was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were both artists. Her mother was a fashion designer. Bianca's family also has Creole roots.

She first started her career as a fashion blogger. However, she later decided to focus on other topics that felt more important to her. This led her to explore different ways of expressing herself through art.

Her Journey in Comics

Bianca Xunise gets ideas from many artists. Some of her influences include Finnish artist Tove Jansson, who created the Moomins. She also looks up to Austrian children's book illustrator Ludwig Bemelmans and Japanese manga artist Naoko Takeuchi.

Bianca started her professional comic career in 2015. An online community for women called Hello Giggles gave her a regular column. Her work was also shown in other places like the Nib and Shondaland.

In 2018, Bianca won a special prize called the Ignatz Award. She received it for "Promising New Talent." This award was for her self-published comic called "Say Her Name." This comic explored her experiences as a Black person in America.

Joining Six Chix

In 2020, Bianca Xunise made history. She became the second Black woman to have her comic strip shown all over the country. She joined the Six Chix comic strip team. Before her, Barbara Brandon-Croft was the first. Her comic, Where I'm Coming From, was nationally syndicated from 1991 to 2005.

With her debut in Six Chix, Bianca Xunise also became the first Black nonbinary cartoonist to have their work published nationally.
