Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bickley is a small place in Ware County, Georgia, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's governed by the county. Bickley is located northwest of a larger city called Waycross and south of Nicholls, Georgia. It's mostly a farming area, meaning many people there work in agriculture.

Bickley's Past: A Look at Its History

Bickley had a post office that opened in 1881. A post office is where people send and receive mail. This post office stayed open for many years, until 1909. At one point, in the year 1900, about 100 people lived in Bickley.

Understanding Bickley's Population

When we look at how many people lived in Bickley, we mostly have information from the year 1900. Back then, 100 people called Bickley home. The community was started right after the 1880 census, which is a count of all the people in a country. Sadly, the records from the 1890 census for Bickley were lost in a fire. Also, Bickley became less organized before the 1910 census. This means that even though Bickley existed for about 28 years, the 1900 census is the only official count we have of its population.
