Journey Through the Wilderness
The creek travels through a very special area called the Big Jacks Creek Wilderness. This wilderness is a dry, desert-like place, but the creek brings life to it. The journey ends southwest of Bruneau. Here, the creek is much lower, at about 2,779 feet (847.0 m) in elevation.
What is a Wild River?
In 2009, a big part of Big Jacks Creek was given a special title: "wild." About 35.0 miles (56.3 km) of the creek is now a wild river. This happened because of a law called the Omnibus Public Land Management Act.
Being a "wild river" means the creek is kept very natural. It flows freely, without dams or major changes from people. This law also helped create the Big Jacks Creek Wilderness. It protects the land and the creek for everyone to enjoy. It helps keep the area beautiful and untouched.
