Milton Powell (born November 29, 1974 – died June 18, 2023), known as Big Pokey, was an American rapper from Houston, Texas. He was famous for his connection to a music style called chopped and screwed. This style of hip hop music is made by slowing down songs and repeating sounds. Big Pokey was one of the first members of a music group called the Screwed Up Click.

Big Pokey's Music Career
Big Pokey started rapping with a music producer from Houston named DJ Screw in the early 1990s. He released many songs on DJ Screw's mixtapes. A mixtape is like a collection of songs put together. Big Pokey was featured on DJ Screw's mixtape "June 27th Freestyle". This mixtape became a very important album in chopped and screwed hip hop music.
First Albums and Success
Big Pokey's first full album was called Hardest Pit in the Litter. It came out in 1999. The next year, he released another album, D-Game 2000. This album had beats driven by a special drum machine. Many other Houston rappers were guests on this album.
In 2001, he worked with a group called the Wreckshop Wolfpack on an album named Tha Collabo. Then, in 2002, he released another solo album, Da Sky's Da Limit. In 2004, a short part of Big Pokey's song "Who Dat Talkin Down" was used in the first episode of the TV show Entourage on HBO. In 2005, Big Pokey was featured on a song called "Sittin' Sidewayz" by another rapper named Paul Wall. This song became very popular and reached number 93 on the US Billboard Hot 100 music chart.
Big Pokey's Passing
On June 18, 2023, Milton Powell was performing at a bar in Beaumont, Texas. During his performance, he collapsed and lost consciousness. He was taken to a hospital, but sadly, he passed away at 48 years old.
