Bigbee (also known as Johnsons Mill) is a small community in Monroe County, Mississippi. It is an unincorporated community. This means it is a group of homes and businesses that are part of the larger county. Bigbee is located northwest of Amory. You can find it near where Mississippi Highway 6 and Mississippi Highway 371 meet.

A Look Back in Time
Bigbee got its name from a shorter version of the nearby East Fork Tombigbee River. The community is located along the BNSF Railway. In 1910, Bigbee had two general stores and a sawmill.
The Houston Brothers' Sawmill
In 1892, two brothers, George and Frank Houston, built a sawmill in Bigbee. This sawmill was located where the Tombigbee River and the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway met. The sawmill was a very important business for the area. It operated until 1903.
The Houston Brothers' sawmill was one of the largest in Monroe County. Because of the sawmill, Bigbee was one of the first communities in the county to have electric lights. The sawmill also ran a hotel and a store called a commissary.
Bigbee's Population and Post Office
In 1906, it was estimated that about 250 people lived in Bigbee. A post office also operated in Bigbee. It was open from 1890 until 1912.

Today, Bigbee is served by the Bigbee Community Center. This center helps bring people in the community together.
