Bigfoot is a small community in Frio County, Texas, United States. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a place with a shared identity but without its own local government. It's also a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means the U.S. Census Bureau counts its population separately.

In 2020, about 480 people lived in Bigfoot. This number has grown over the years. In 2010, there were 450 residents, and in 2000, there were 304.

History of Bigfoot, Texas

The first people settled in the area of Bigfoot in the 1860s. At first, the community was called "Connally's Store." This name lasted until 1883, when a post office was opened there.

The town was later renamed to honor a famous Texas Ranger named William A. A. "Bigfoot" Wallace. He used to live in the town. Wallace was known for his adventures and stories from the early days of Texas.

Where is Bigfoot Located?

Bigfoot is found in the northeast part of Frio County. It is near the borders of Medina County to the north and Atascosa County to the east.

A main road, Texas State Highway 173, goes through the northeastern part of Bigfoot. This highway can take you to nearby towns. It's about 7 miles (11 km) northwest to Devine. If you go southeast, it's about 20 miles (32 km) to Jourdanton.

Bigfoot is also not too far from bigger cities. Downtown San Antonio is about 41 miles (66 km) north. Pearsall, which is the main town in Frio County, is about 21 miles (34 km) southwest.

The total area of Bigfoot is about 23.9 square miles (62.0 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a very small part being water.
