History

Founding of the Town

In 1916, a big flood happened in Asheville, North Carolina. This flood caused damage to the Biltmore Estate, which is a very large historic house and gardens. To help manage the costs of repairs and taxes, The Biltmore Company decided to sell some of the land that was affected by the flood.

The town of Biltmore Forest was officially created in 1923 on this land. The very first houses in the new town were built on a street called White Oak Road. Later, in 1929, a part of Biltmore Forest was added to the city of Asheville. However, this decision was changed in 1935 by the government of North Carolina, and that part of Biltmore Forest became its own town again.
