The Bindal people had their own language. It was also called Bindal. Sadly, this language is now extinct. This means no one speaks it anymore. It was part of a large group of languages. This group is called the Pama-Nyungan language family. Experts have found some old word lists. These lists help us learn about the Bindal language.

Where Did the Bindal People Live?

The Bindal people lived in a specific area. Their lands were along the coast. This was near where the Burdekin River meets the Coral Sea. This area is known as Upstart Bay. Their country stretched northwards. It went as far as Cape Cleveland. Inland, their lands reached the Leichhardt Range. They were the original people of the town of Ayr. One expert, Norman Tindale, estimated their land covered about 1,000 square miles (2,600 square kilometers).
