Biniguy's History and Transport

Biniguy has a history connected to trains. A railway station opened there on February 1, 1900. This was part of the Inverell railway line. Trains used to carry passengers and goods.

Trains and Coaches

The railway station closed on December 3, 1985. This happened after passenger trains stopped running on the line. Over time, the railway line itself was closed. The last part, between Moree and Biniguy, stopped being used in 1994.

Today, you can still travel to Biniguy. NSW TrainLink coaches (buses) serve the village. They run from Monday to Saturday. These coaches connect Biniguy to Grafton and Moree.

Past Community Services

Biniguy used to have its own post office. It also had a general store and a public school. However, these facilities closed down. Most of them shut in the 1960s and 1970s. Now, most community services are found in the larger town of Moree.

What People Do in Biniguy

The main type of work in Biniguy is farming. This area is important for growing crops.

Grain Farming

There is a large silo site in Biniguy. A company called GrainCorp operates it. Silos are tall structures used to store grain. Farmers bring their harvested crops here. The grain is kept safe until it can be transported. In 2006, it was announced that this site might close. But as of 2010, the silo was still working. It remains part of GrainCorp's network.

Pecan Nuts

Biniguy is also home to a very large pecan farm. It's called the Trawalla Pecan Farm. This farm started in 1965. It is run by Stahmann Farms. This farm is the biggest pecan farm in the Southern Hemisphere. It is located near the Gwydir River. This is just a few kilometers west of Biniguy.
