Exploring Birdsall's Past

People first started living in the Birdsall area around 1816. The town of Birdsall was officially formed in 1829. It was created from parts of two nearby towns: Almond and Allen.

For many years, from 1882 to 1947, a main train line ran through Birdsall. This train line was called the Pittsburg, Shawmut & Northern Railroad. It was later closed down. This was done to encourage more trucks to use the highways for transportation.

In 1980, the Birdsall Fire Department was started. William Timberlake helped create it. He and Dale Wheeler even got the first fire truck. It was donated for just one dollar from the Egypt, New York Fire Department!

Birdsall covers about 93.4 square kilometers (36 square miles). Most of this area, about 93.0 square kilometers, is land. The rest, about 0.4 square kilometers, is water. This means there are small lakes or streams within the town's borders.
