Birgitta Ohlsson (born on July 20, 1975) is a Swedish politician. She was a minister in the Swedish government, serving as the Minister for European Union Affairs from 2010 to 2014. She is a member of the Liberals party, which was previously called the Liberal People's Party. Today, Birgitta Ohlsson works as the director of political parties for the National Democratic Institute.
In June 2017, Ohlsson wanted to become the leader of her party. She challenged the current leader, Jan Björklund. However, in September 2017, she decided to stop her leadership bid. She also announced that she would leave politics after the general election in 2018.

Early Life and Education
Birgitta Ohlsson was born in Linköping, Sweden, on July 20, 1975. She went to high school at Katedralskolan in Linköping from 1991 to 1994. After high school, she studied at Stockholm University. From 1994 to 1997, she learned about political science, international relations, and the United Nations.
Political Career
Before becoming a politician, Birgitta Ohlsson worked as a writer. From 1997 to 1999, she wrote opinion pieces for several liberal newspapers in Sweden. These included Sundsvalls Tidning and Dagens Nyheter.
Youth Politics
From 1999 to 2002, Ohlsson was the leader of the Liberal Youth of Sweden. This is the youth group of the Liberal People's Party.
Member of Parliament
In 2002, Birgitta Ohlsson was elected to the Swedish parliament. She represented the Stockholm Municipality area. In parliament, she worked on different committees. She was involved with committees that dealt with jobs and international matters. She also spoke for her party on foreign affairs.
Other Important Roles
Ohlsson has also held many other important roles. She was the leader of the Association of Liberal Students in Stockholm. She was also the deputy leader of Young European Federalists in Sweden. She served on the board of the Swedish International Liberal Centre. From 2002 to 2005, she was the leader of the Swedish Republican Association. She was also involved with the Sweden–Israel Friendship Association in Stockholm. From 2007 to 2010, she led the Federation of Liberal Women. She is also part of a group called the Elie Wiesel Network. This group works to prevent terrible events like genocide.
Minister for EU Affairs
On February 2, 2010, Birgitta Ohlsson became the new Minister for European Union Affairs. She was part of the Swedish government. She took over this role from Cecilia Malmström.
Later Work
From 2018 to 2019, Ohlsson worked on a special group for Oxfam. This group looked into how Oxfam handled certain issues and how its culture could change.
Personal Life
Birgitta Ohlsson is married to Mark Klamberg. He is a professor who teaches about international law at Stockholm University.
