Eva Birgitta Ohlsson Klamberg (born 20 July 1975) is a Swedish politician. She was a Minister for European Union Affairs in the Swedish government from 2010 to 2014. She is a member of the Liberals political party. This party was once known as the Liberal People's Party. Birgitta Ohlsson now works as the director of political parties for the National_Democratic_Institute.

In June 2017, Ohlsson tried to become the leader of her party. She challenged the current leader, Jan Björklund. However, on 15 September 2017, she decided to stop her campaign. She also announced that she would leave politics after the general election in 2018.

Growing Up and School

Birgitta Ohlsson was born in Linköping, Östergötland County, Sweden. She went to Katedralskolan in Linköping for her upper secondary education. This was from 1991 to 1994. After that, she studied at Stockholm University. From 1994 to 1997, she learned about political science, international relations, and the United Nations.

Birgitta Ohlsson's Career

From 1997 to 1999, Birgitta Ohlsson wrote for several liberal newspapers in Sweden. These included Sundsvalls Tidning and Dagens Nyheter. From 1999 to 2002, she was the leader of the Liberal Youth of Sweden. This is the youth group of the Liberal People's Party.

In the 2002 general election, Ohlsson was chosen to be a member of the Swedish parliament. She represented the Stockholm Municipality area. In parliament, she worked on different committees. She was a substitute for the Committee on the Labour Market from 2002 to 2006. She also worked on the Committee on Foreign Affairs from 2002 to 2004. Later, she became a full member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2010. She was also her party's main speaker on foreign affairs.

Birgitta Ohlsson has also done many volunteer jobs. She led the Association of Liberal Students in Stockholm from 1996 to 1998. She was also a leader for Young European Federalists in Sweden in 1998. Since 2001, she has been on the board of the Swedish International Liberal Centre. She led the Swedish Republican Association from 2002 to 2005. She was also a leader for the Sweden–Israel Friendship Association in Stockholm. Since 2007, she has been on the national board of the Liberal People's Party. From 2007 to 2010, she led the Federation of Liberal Women. She is also part of a group called the Elie Wiesel Network. This group works to stop genocide and mass violence.

On 2 February 2010, Ohlsson became the new Minister for European Union Affairs. She worked in the Swedish government. She took over from Cecilia Malmström.

Family Life

Birgitta Ohlsson is married to Mark Klamberg. He is a professor of international law at Stockholm University.
