What does the name Birote Kalan mean?
The name Birote means "the land of wrestlers". This is a cool name for a place! The words khurd and kalan are often added to place names. They come from the Persian language. Khurd means "small" and kalan means "big". These words were used a long time ago, during the Mughal period. They helped tell apart two places that had the same name. So, Birote Khurd means "little Birote". And Birote Kalan means "big Birote".

Birote Kalan is in the southeastern part of the Circle Bakote Region. This region is in the Abbottabad District. It shares a border with Tehsil Dheerkot. This area is part of the Bagh District of Kashmir. To the west, you can find Mukeshpuri Top and Ayubia. The famous Kohala Bridge is located to the north. Murree is to the south. Because of its location, Birote Kalan was affected by the 2005 earthquake. The center of that earthquake was in Kashmir.
