Birán is a small village located in the Holguín Province of Cuba. It is a quiet place, but it is famous for being the birthplace of several important figures in Cuban history. These include Ramón Castro Ruz, Fidel Castro, Raúl Castro, and their sister Juanita Castro. Their father, Ángel Castro y Argiz, owned a large farm here, which was about 93 square kilometers (36 square miles) in size.

History of Birán
When Birán Was Part of Mayarí
For many years, Birán was part of a nearby area called Mayarí. This changed in 1976. After a big change in how towns were organized, Birán became part of the Cueto municipality instead.

The farm in Birán is well-known as the place where the Castro siblings were born. Ramón, Fidel, and Raúl Castro became important leaders in Cuba. Their sister, Juanita, also grew up there. This makes Birán a significant historical site in Cuba.

Birán is found in a beautiful part of Cuba. It is about 30 kilometers (19 miles) southwest of Mayarí. It is also about 9 kilometers (6 miles) south of Cueto. The village sits near the bottom of the Nipe Mountains, which are also known as the Sierra de Nipe. This area is known for its lovely natural scenery.
