Bismarck Barreto Faria, known simply as Bismarck, is a former professional football (soccer) player from Brazil. He was born on September 17, 1969. Bismarck played as a midfielder, which means he helped both defend and attack on the field.

Bismarck's Football Journey

Bismarck started his professional football career in 1987. He began playing for a famous Brazilian club called Vasco da Gama. He played there for several years.

Playing in Japan

In 1993, Bismarck moved to Japan. He joined a team called Verdy Kawasaki in the J1 League. The J1 League is Japan's top football league.

  • While playing for Verdy Kawasaki, Bismarck was chosen twice for the J. League Best Eleven. This award goes to the best players in the league each season. He received it in 1994 and 1995.

In 1997, he moved to another Japanese team, Kashima Antlers. He was again selected for the J. League Best Eleven in his first year with this new club.

Return to Brazil and Retirement

In 2002, Bismarck went back to Brazil. He played for Fluminense and Goiás.

However, in 2003, he returned to Japan one last time. He played for Vissel Kobe before he stopped playing professional football at the end of that season.

Youth Teams

He was part of the Brazil national under-20 football team. This team finished third in the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship. This was a big tournament for young players.

Senior National Team

Later, he joined the main Brazil national team. He helped Brazil win the Copa América in 1989. The Copa América is a major football competition for South American countries.

Bismarck also represented Brazil in the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. The FIFA World Cup is the biggest football tournament in the world.

Bismarck's Life Outside Football

Bismarck has an interesting name! He was named after Otto von Bismarck. Otto von Bismarck was a very important politician in Germany a long time ago. He helped create the country of Germany as we know it.

Bismarck also appeared in a special version of the film Jesus. This version was made and shared during the 1998 World Cup. He was featured alongside his Brazilian teammates Jorginho and Cláudio Taffarel.
