Bismarck Barreto Faria, known simply as Bismarck, is a former professional footballer from Brazil. He was born on September 17, 1969. Bismarck played as a midfielder during his career.

Bismarck's Club Journey
Bismarck started his professional football career in 1987. He played for Vasco da Gama in Brazil. In 1993, he moved to Japan. There, he joined Verdy Kawasaki in the J1 League.
During his time at Verdy Kawasaki, Bismarck was a star player. He was chosen for the J. League Best Eleven team twice. This happened in 1994 and again in 1995. In 1997, he moved to another Japanese team, Kashima Antlers. He was once again named to the J. League Best Eleven in his first year with Kashima.
In 2002, Bismarck returned to Brazil. He played for Fluminense and Goiás. However, he went back to Japan in 2003. He played for Vissel Kobe before he retired from football at the end of that season.
Playing for Brazil
Bismarck also played for his country, Brazil. He was part of the Brazil national under-20 football team. This team finished third in the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship. Bismarck was a standout player in that tournament. He won the MVP Award, also known as the Adidas Golden Ball. This award is given to the best player in the tournament.
As an adult player, Bismarck joined the Brazil national team. He helped them win the Copa América in 1989. He also represented Brazil in the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. Playing in the World Cup is a huge achievement for any footballer.

Bismarck was named after Otto von Bismarck. Otto von Bismarck was a very famous politician. He played a big part in creating the German Empire. This was one of the world's major powers at the time.
Bismarck also appeared in a special version of the film Jesus. This version was made and shared during the 1998 World Cup. He was featured alongside his Brazilian teammates Jorginho and Cláudio Taffarel.
