Have you ever seen a damselfly? They are amazing insects, a bit like tiny, colorful helicopters! One special type is called the Nososticta baroalba. Most people know it as the black-winged threadtail. This cool insect is a type of damselfly that belongs to the family Platycnemididae.

The black-winged threadtail is quite small and slender. It has a black body with some brown markings. Its most noticeable feature is its dark wings, which give it its common name. This damselfly has only been found in the Northern Territory of Australia. It loves to live near streams, where it can find food and lay its eggs.

Where Did It Get Its Name?

The name baroalba might sound a bit unusual! It comes from a place called Baroalba Creek in the Northern Territory, Australia. This is where the very first example of this damselfly, called the holotype, was discovered. Scientists often name new species after the place where they are first found.
