BlackGirl is an American pop and dance vocal group. It is made up of three talented singers: Pam Copeland, Nycolia "Tye-V" Turman, and Rochelle Stuart. The group started in 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia. They signed with the Kaper/RCA/BMG record label.

The Story of BlackGirl
BlackGirl released their first album, Treat U Right, in 1994. People really liked their fresh sound. Warren Marshall from the Columbus Times newspaper called them "the ultimate definition of today's '90s girls."
Early Hits and Success
Their first song, "Krazy," came out in 1993. It was a big hit on the Billboard R&B chart. Many of their songs became popular. These included "Krazy" (which reached number 37), "90's Girl" (number 13), "Where Did We Go Wrong" (number 39), and "Let's Do It Again" (number 25). By the time "90's Girl" was released, their album had sold many copies.

Tours and Collaborations
In late 1994, BlackGirl went on a six-week tour across the United States with famous artist R. Kelly. They also appeared on the popular TV show Soul Train. The group even starred in a Chrysler car commercial. They released a holiday song called "Give Love On Christmas Day"/"Christmas Time."
Later, BlackGirl joined other big stars like Aaliyah, En Vogue, Mary J. Blige, Vanessa Williams, For Real, and SWV. They all sang together on the song "Freedom." This song was from the film, Panther. "Freedom" became BlackGirl's fifth song to reach the top 40, peaking at number 18.
In September 1994, the band performed at the Georgia Hall of Fame gala. This event honored the legendary musician Isaac Hayes.
Awards and Later Years
In 1995, BlackGirl received two nominations for the Soul Train Award. They were nominated for "Single of the Year" for "Let's Do It Again" and "Album of the Year" for Treat U Right. The song "90's Girl" was also released in the UK. It became a top five hit on the R&B chart there and reached number 23 on the UK Singles Chart.
The group also sang on the song "Hey, Look Away" by Questionmark Asylum in late 1995. At the end of that year, they performed with rock and roll legend Chuck Berry at the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame ceremony.
The group stopped performing together in 1996. In 2010, Rochelle Stuart released a gospel album called I Choose Jesus under the name Rochelle Morgan.
In 2013, AllMusic.com recognized "Krazy" as one of the best R&B songs of 1994. The original members of BlackGirl reunited in late 2016. They even released a new version of their hit song, "Where Did We Go Wrong." In 2017, BlackGirl started listing new tour dates on their official website.

BlackGirl also used their fame to help people.
Charity Work and Benefits
On January 7, 1995, BlackGirl participated in 'The Lou Rawls Parade of Stars'. This event raised money for the United Negro College Fund. This fund helps students attend college.
In March 1995, BlackGirl joined other celebrities like Naomi Campbell, Coolio, Aaliyah, and Naughty by Nature. They were part of a program called CounterAID. This event raised over $200,000 to help people affected by AIDS.
