About Black Bear
Black Bear started making music in 2000. They are very proud of their Atikamekw culture and history. They show this pride by singing in their Atikamekw language, which many people still speak today.
Their Music Style
The group sings in a style called "northern contemporary." This style often has high-pitched singing. The songs also get faster as they are repeated. This creates an exciting and energetic sound.
Awards and Recognition
In 2011, Black Bear's album Out of Hibernation won an award. It was named Best Contemporary Powwow at the 6th Annual Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards. These awards celebrate the best in Indigenous music.
