Black Easter Bunny was a very famous Quarter Horse racehorse. Born in 1949, this amazing mare raced in the early 1950s. She won many races, even against some of the best horses of her time!
Meet Black Easter Bunny
Black Easter Bunny was born in 1949. She was a beautiful black mare, which means she was a female horse. Her dad was a Thoroughbred stallion named Hysition. Her mom was a Quarter Horse mare named Flicka. Flicka's family tree included famous horses like Chicaro and Traveler.
Her Racing Career
Black Easter Bunny was a true racing star! She competed in a huge number of races, 111 times in total. Out of those, she won 21 races, came in second 22 times, and finished third 13 times.
She earned a special "AAA" speed rating. This showed how incredibly fast she was. In her racing career, she won a total of $40,228.00 in prize money. She also earned 136 points from the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA). Because of her amazing performance, she was named the Champion Quarter Running Three Year Old Mare in 1952.
A New Chapter: Becoming a Mom
In 1956, Black Easter Bunny's owner, Walt Culbertson, decided to stop racing horses. He sold Black Easter Bunny to Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Childers. Mrs. Childers was very excited to have her! She even chose Black Easter Bunny over a new mink coat for Christmas.
After her racing days, Black Easter Bunny became a mom. She had five foals, and every single one of them became a winner on the racetrack! All five of her children earned a "Race Register of Merit." Four of them were rated AAA, and one even got the highest rating, AAAT.
Together, her five children earned an amazing $122,969.00 in races. Her daughter, Bunny's Bar Maid, was especially successful. She finished second in the big 1961 All American Futurity race. Bunny's Bar Maid also won the Kansas Futurity.
A Lasting Legacy
Black Easter Bunny did not live for many years with her new owners. Sadly, she had an accident that ended her life. "She was a wonderful mare," said Spencer Childers. Even though her life was shorter than hoped, she left a big mark.
In 2002, Black Easter Bunny was honored in a very special way. She was added to the Hall of Fame of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA). This means she is remembered as one of the greatest Quarter Horses ever!
