The Black River is a river in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, a state in the United States. It is about 11 miles (17.7 kilometers) long. The river flows into Lake Michigan. This happens about 5 miles (8 kilometers) east of a town called Naubinway.
Where the River Starts
The main part of the Black River begins in a wet, marshy area. This place is in eastern Garfield Township, close to a spot called Cranberry Lake Bog.
Another part, called the East Branch, starts in Hudson Township. It later joins the main Black River. All the water that flows into the Black River comes from Mackinac County. A lot of this area is part of the Lake Superior State Forest.
