Charles "Blackie" Chen, also known as Chen Chien-Chou, was born on May 2, 1977. He is a famous TV personality, a former basketball player, and a sports manager from Taiwan. He is well-known for starting the professional basketball league in Taiwan called P. League+.
Life and Career
Basketball Journey
When Charles Chen was 18, he joined the Chinese Taipei junior national basketball team. He played in a big competition in 1995, where his team finished in fifth place.
Even though he was 190 centimeters tall, which is not very tall for a basketball player, he played close to the basket. He looked up to the famous basketball player Charles Barkley, who was also a shorter player who played a similar role. This is why Chen chose "Charles" as his English name.
In 1999, he played for Taiwan's B national team in the William Jones Cup. Later, while playing for a club in Singapore, he got a serious knee injury. This injury unfortunately ended his basketball playing career early.
In 2020, Charles Chen helped create a new professional basketball league in Taiwan called P. League+. He worked with several teams, including Taipei Fubon Braves and Formosa Dreamers, to make this league happen. He was the first CEO of the league.
Entertainment and TV Work
After his basketball career, Charles Chen became a popular TV star. He has hosted many different variety shows. People often call him "Blackie" because of his darker skin. This nickname also sounds a bit like Jackie Chan, and both of them have trained in judo.
Charles Chen married singer Christine Fan in Taipei on May 7, 2011. They had been together for 10 years before getting engaged in 2010.
He also worked as the team leader and marketing head for the Taiwan Beer Basketball Team. In 2008, he directed a documentary film called Attitude. This film was about the team's journey to win the Super Basketball League championship. The documentary was very popular and received many awards in Taiwan. Many people think it is one of the best sports documentaries from Taiwan.
Charles Chen is also a well-known TV host for several shows. He and his wife, Christine Fan, also started the "Love Life" campaign. This campaign helps people and spreads positive messages.
