Blacklick is a small community in Ohio, United States. It is located in Franklin County and is part of the larger Columbus Metropolitan Area. Even though it's not a city, it's a real place where people live and go to school!
History of Blacklick
Blacklick was started in 1852 by a person named William A. Smith. It was first called Smithville. However, there was already another town with that name. So, the community was renamed Blacklick. It got its new name from a nearby stream called Blacklick Creek.
Some people once thought the creek was named after a local landowner, H. G. Black. But maps from 1806 already showed Blacklick Creek. H. G. Black was not even born until 1817. This means the creek was named long before he was around!
Geography of Blacklick
Blacklick Creek flows gently through the Blacklick area. This creek is a natural feature of the community.
The Blacklick Post Office (with ZIP code 43004) used to be right in the community. Now, it has moved a bit south. It is located on Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road.
Blacklick is also home to Jefferson Cemetery. This is an active cemetery that is managed by Jefferson Township.
