Blacklick Creek is a stream that flows into Big Walnut Creek in Ohio. It runs through three counties: Licking, Fairfield, and Franklin.
Native Americans gave the creek its name. They noticed animals often came to the creek. The animals would lick black-colored salt stones found there. People have also called it Black Lick Creek, Black Lick Fork, Blacks Lick Creek, and Big Lick Creek.

Blacklick Creek is about 27 miles long. Its bed is made of rock and slate. The creek starts near Mink Street in Jersey Township. This area is in the northwestern part of Licking County.
Where Does Blacklick Creek Flow?
The creek enters Franklin County in Plain Township. It then flows close to the border between Licking and Franklin counties. Next, the stream goes into Fairfield County near Reynoldsburg. After that, it re-enters Franklin County near Brice. Finally, Blacklick Creek joins Big Walnut Creek in Columbus. This meeting point is near South Hamilton Road.
When Did Blacklick Creek Flood?
On September 14, 1979, Blacklick Creek caused a flood. Heavy rains from Hurricane Frederic made the water rise. The creek went over a protective wall called a levee. This flood affected the Municipal Building in Reynoldsburg. It also flooded about 300 homes in Blacklick Estates.
