Blacklog Creek facts for kids
Blacklog Creek is a stream about 28.5 miles (45.9 km) long. It flows into Aughwick Creek in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, in the United States.
Where Blacklog Creek Begins
Blacklog Creek starts in the Tuscarora State Forest. It flows towards the southwest. The creek runs between two mountains. Blacklog Mountain is to its northwest. Shade Mountain is to its southeast. This area is known as the Blacklog Valley.
The Blacklog Narrows
After flowing through the valley, Blacklog Creek meets Shade Creek. Then, it turns west. It cuts a path through Blacklog Mountain. This narrow passage is called the Blacklog Narrows.
The Blacklog Narrows is an important place. A highway, U.S. Route 522, goes through it. A historic railroad also used to run here. This was the East Broad Top Railroad. Today, the Rockhill Trolley Museum uses part of the old railway.
In the past, this area was busy. There were iron furnaces here, like the Winchester and Rockhill furnaces. People also mined iron ore in the 1870s.
Where Blacklog Creek Ends
Blacklog Creek flows between the towns of Rockhill and Orbisonia. It then cuts through a place called Saddle Back Ridge. Finally, it joins Aughwick Creek. This meeting point is about two miles downstream from Rockhill and Orbisonia.
