Shade Creek facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Shade Creek is a cool waterway, also known as a tributary, located in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It flows into the larger Stonycreek River. Think of it like a smaller road joining a bigger highway!

About Shade Creek

Shade Creek is about 9.5 miles (15.3 kilometers) long. It starts near a place called Cairnbrook. From there, it travels until it meets the Stonycreek River at the community of Seanor.

How Shade Creek is Formed

Shade Creek doesn't just appear out of nowhere! It's created when two other creeks come together. These are Dark Shade Creek and Clear Shade Creek. They meet about 1.9 miles (3.1 kilometers) downstream from Cairnbrook.

Dark Shade Creek

Dark Shade Creek is one of the two streams that combine to form Shade Creek. It flows until it meets Clear Shade Creek.

Clear Shade Creek

The other stream is Clear Shade Creek. This creek flows through a beautiful area called Forbes State Forest. This forest is located east of Windber. After winding through the forest, Clear Shade Creek joins Dark Shade Creek to create Shade Creek.
