About Blackwall Station
Blackwall station is part of the Docklands Light Railway network. It sits on the DLR's Beckton branch. If you're traveling on the DLR, you'll find Blackwall station between Poplar and East India stations. It's also in Travelcard Zone 2, which helps you figure out how much your journey will cost.
When Did Blackwall Station Open?
The current DLR station at Blackwall opened its doors on 28 March 1994. This was when the Beckton branch of the DLR first started running.
A Look Back: Older Stations
Interestingly, there was an older train station in almost the same spot before the DLR came along. This earlier station was called Poplar station. It was part of the London and Blackwall Railway and operated from 6 July 1840 until 3 May 1926.
You might also hear about another station called Blackwall station from the London and Blackwall Railway. But that one was actually a bit further east from where the DLR station is today. You can see where these old stations were on an old map from 1885, if you're curious about history!
How Trains Move at Blackwall
Just west of Blackwall station, there's a special track setup called a "crossover." This clever design allows DLR trains coming from places like Beckton, Poplar, or even Woolwich Arsenal to change direction and head back the way they came. It helps manage train movements and keep the DLR running smoothly.
