The town got its name from a nearby stream called Blanket Creek.

Where is Blanket, Texas?
Blanket is found in the eastern part of Brown County. Major roads, U.S. Routes 67 and 377, run along the edge of town. These roads connect Blanket to Brownwood, which is about 14 miles southwest. Brownwood is the main city in Brown County. The roads also lead northeast about 12 miles to Comanche.
The town covers a total area of about 0.65 square miles (1.6 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.

Six-Man Football in Blanket
In Blanket, students play a special kind of American football called Six-man football. This game is played by Blanket High School and Blanket Junior High School. Instead of 11 players, each team has only six players on the field.
Blanket High's six-man football team is known for some exciting games. In 2014, they scored over 100 points in a playoff game, beating Loraine High 101–99! This was a Class 1A Division 2 bidistrict playoff game.
The school has also won many awards from the Six-man Heaven Arts Contest. These awards are for things like film, poetry, web design, photography, and music. All of these creative works focus on six-man football. The rules for six-man football in Texas high schools are set by the UIL, which is the main group for high school sports in Texas.
