Discovering Blinky's Fun Club

Who Was Blinky the Clown?

The main star of Blinky's Fun Club was a friendly character named Blinky the Clown. A talented actor named Russell Scott played Blinky. In the early 1980s, more fun characters joined the show. These included Otis and Zelda, who were played by a real-life husband and wife team, Michael Berg and C.J. Prince.

What Happened on the Show?

Each episode of Blinky's Fun Club was a special treat. Children would come on the show to celebrate their birthdays. Blinky would sing "Happy Birthday to You" to them. He sang it in a special way, saying "Birf-Day," which was a fun tradition for the kids. The show was always full of laughter and entertainment for its young audience.

Where and When Did Blinky's Fun Club Air?

The show started its long run in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It aired on a TV station called KKTV from 1958 to 1966. After that, the show moved to Denver, Colorado. It continued to air on KWGN-TV from 1966 all the way until 1998. In 1998, the general manager at KWGN, William Ross, decided to end the series. This brought an end to a remarkable 40-year run on Colorado television. Blinky's Fun Club had been on KKTV for nine years and on KWGN for 32 years.

How Many Episodes Were Made?

Over the show's three decades on KWGN-TV, more than 10,000 episodes were filmed. These episodes were taped at KWGN's studios. The studios were first located in Denver and later moved to Greenwood Village. Sadly, the TV station reportedly saved only about 10 of these many episodes. However, other local TV stations, KCNC and KUSA, were able to save a few more episodes. They added these rescued episodes to their own libraries.
