James Lee Baker (born May 19, 1996), known as BlocBoy JB, is an American rapper. He is from Memphis, Tennessee. BlocBoy JB is famous for his 2018 song "Look Alive". This song featured the artist Drake. It reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.
His next song, "Rover", was remixed with 21 Savage. Both songs came out before his seventh mixtape, Simi, in 2018. He signed with Interscope Records in August 2018. His first studio album, FatBoy, was released in 2020.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
James Baker was born on May 19, 1996. He grew up mostly in Binghampton, Memphis, a part of Memphis, Tennessee. His stage name, BlocBoy JB, comes from his father.
When James was fourteen, he started making music. He moved to Raleigh in North Memphis. There, he met Tay Keith. Tay Keith later produced the hit song "Look Alive". The two began creating music together soon after they met.

Early Music Releases (2012–2016)
BlocBoy JB started sharing his music online in 2012. He used his SoundCloud page for this. In 2016, he released his first mixtape. It was called Who Am I. This mixtape included the song "No Chorus Pt. 6". This song became very popular. It gained over three million views on YouTube.
Rise to Fame (2017–2018)
In the summer of 2017, he released the song "Shoot". This song became a big hit. It also started a popular dance called the "shoot dance". Another song, "Rover", came out in early 2018.
These popular songs caught the attention of Canadian rapper Drake. Many people thought Drake would remix "Rover". Instead, they worked together on a new song. This song was called "Look Alive". It was released in February 2018. The song quickly became a success. It debuted at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
After "Look Alive" was released, there were talks about BlocBoy JB possibly joining Drake's record label, OVO Sound. He also appeared on Moneybagg Yo's project 2 Heartless. On March 23, 2018, BlocBoy JB released "Rover 2.0". This was a new version of "Rover". It featured rapper 21 Savage. This song also did well on the Billboard charts. He was also featured on songs by ASAP Rocky and Tay-K.

In October 2018, he released his first extended play (EP). It was called Don't Think That. This EP included songs with Lil Uzi Vert and Hoodrich Pablo Juan.
Recent Music (2019–Present)
BlocBoy JB released his eighth mixtape, I Am Me, on June 14, 2019. This mixtape featured artists like Lil Durk and Moneybagg Yo. He has also collaborated with NLE Choppa, another artist from Memphis. They have made three songs together: ChopBloc, ChopBloc 2, and ChopBloc 3.
In March 2020, BlocBoy JB released his first song of that year, "Swervin". In May 2020, he released "No Chorus, Pt. 12". This song was produced by his longtime collaborator, Tay Keith. After releasing several songs, BlocBoy JB's first studio album, FatBoy, came out on October 9, 2020.
