Erigeron blochmaniae is a beautiful flowering plant. It is also known as Blochman's erigeron or Blochman's leafy daisy. This plant belongs to the daisy family, just like sunflowers and dandelions!

Blochman's Daisy: A Special California Plant

This special plant grows only in one specific place. It is found only along the coast of California. This means it is endemic to California. You can find it in San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties.

Where Does It Live?

Blochman's daisy loves sandy places. It grows in sand dunes right by the ocean. It also lives on coastal hillsides. Sadly, the places where this plant grows are shrinking. This is because new buildings and developments are taking over its natural home. Protecting these areas helps the plant survive.

What Does It Look Like?

Blochman's daisy is a perennial herb. This means it lives for more than two years. It grows from a strong, woody base or underground stem. The plant can reach a height of 40 to 80 centimeters (about 16 to 32 inches). That's about as tall as your knee or waist!

Its stem has many narrow, straight leaves. Each leaf is about one to three centimeters long (0.4 to 1.2 inches). The stems are also a bit hairy.

At the top of each stem, you will find a group of flowers. These are called inflorescences. Each flower head is just over a centimeter wide (about 0.4 inches). The flowers have pretty light blue, lavender, or white petals. These petals are called ray florets. In the center, you'll see golden yellow or greenish disc florets.
