The Story of Blount Fine Foods
How It All Began
The Blount family has been involved in the seafood business for a very long time, since the 1880s! F. Nelson Blount started the Blount Seafood Corporation. His family had worked with shellfish for many years.
In 1938, a huge hurricane hit New England. It caused a lot of damage to the oyster farms in Narragansett Bay. After this, F. Nelson Blount helped introduce a different kind of shellfish. It was a hard-shell clam called a "quahog." These clams became an important source of food during World War II.
In 1946, F. Nelson Blount officially started his food-processing company. He brought together several smaller shellfish businesses. His company provided chopped clams to many soup makers across the United States, including Campbell Soup Company.
Growing and Changing
The company changed its name to Blount Fine Foods, Inc. in 2008. Todd Blount, F. Nelson's grandson, became the president and CEO in 2000. He is the third generation of the Blount family to lead the company.
In 2004, Blount Fine Foods grew even more. They added a new main office in Fall River, Massachusetts. This was in addition to their existing factory in Warren, Rhode Island.
Being Eco-Friendly
In October 2010, Blount Fine Foods made some big changes to help the environment. They put in a new, energy-saving refrigeration system. They also added an eco-friendly water cleaning system. Plus, they installed solar panels to use the sun's energy. These changes were part of their plan to be a "green" business.
New Products and Awards
In 2011, the company expanded its Fall River location. They added a large new area to their building. Blount Fine Foods then decided to focus less on seafood. Instead, they started making more special prepared foods. They also introduced new side dishes and sauces.
The company even opened its own retail stores, like the Blount Clam Shack and Soup Bar. In December 2011, they won an important award. Refrigerated & Frozen Foods magazine named them "Refrigerated Foods Processor of the Year."
In 2013, Blount Fine Foods launched a new line of products. These included single-serving soups and macaroni and cheese. This made it easier for people to enjoy their delicious meals.
In 2016, the company grew again by buying another food company. This company was called Food Source, LP, and it was located in McKinney, Texas.
