BluRum13 (also known as Blu Rum 13 or Blurum 13) is an American rapper, singer, and producer. His real name is James Sobers. He also uses the nickname Killa Platypus.

BluRum13 was born in New York City. He grew up mostly in Washington, D.C.. He is known for his unique style in underground hip hop music. He is also the great nephew of famous cricketer Sir Garfield Sobers.

Music Career

BluRum13 has been making music since the 1990s. He is famous for working with many different artists and bands. He has released his own music and been part of several groups.

Early Solo Work

BluRum13's first album was called The Previouslee Unreleased Recordings of BluRum13. This album helped him connect with DJ Vadim from London. DJ Vadim included BluRum13's song It's Obvious on his 2002 album.

BluRum13 then toured as the main emcee (rapper) for DJ Vadim's group, The Russian Percussion. This group also featured talented artists like beatboxer Killa Kela. BluRum13's second album, Vaguely Familiar, was released on DJ Vadim's label.

In 2007, BluRum13 released an EP (a shorter album) called Tether. He worked with UK beatboxer Koobs on this project. Later, in 2013, he released a full album online called Inverted.

In 2017, he released Rainbows, Butterflies & Gangstas. This album was produced by Inkswel, an Australian DJ and producer. In 2018, he released the song "Trying to Live."

Working with Bands and Groups

BluRum13 has been a part of many music groups. From 1994 to 2004, he was in a funk band called Bullfrog. This band was based in Montreal.

In 2005, BluRum13 and DJ Vadim formed a new hip hop group called One Self. They released an album called Children of Possibility. The group worked with other artists like Fat Freddy’s Drop. The Times newspaper even called them "best newcomers of 2005."

BluRum13 also worked with producers like Luke Vibert. They released two albums together. The first was Smell the Urgency in 2004. Their second album, Sense the Urgency, came out in 2019.

He has also been a featured rapper for groups like US3 and Resin Dogs. In 2012, BluRum13 worked with artist Matt Brewer (Frameworks) on "The Brickbuilders EP."

That same year, he started a new group called Indigenous Invaders. They played at the world's first YouTube music festival in Madrid. They released a single and an EP online.

In 2017, BluRum13 teamed up again with DJ Woody and DJ Boca. They formed "BocaWoody" and BluRum13 appeared on five songs of their album Carousel. In 2023, he released another album called Hypersonic with Inkswel, featuring DJ Woody and rapper Guilty Simpson.

Acting Career

Besides music, James Sobers (BluRum13) has also acted. In 2016, he played a cowboy outlaw named “Randy” in a western movie. The film was called ‘’’The Price of Death’’’. It was filmed in Spain.
