Movie Story: The Big Music Show
Getting Ready for the Show
The movie begins with Blue, Mr. Salt, and Mrs. Pepper. They are getting ready for a big music show in the backyard. Steve is still asleep! Blue and Tickety Tock wake him up. Steve realizes he overslept for the "You Can Be Anything You Want to Be" show. This show is about what everyone wants to be when they grow up. Steve sings that they can still get ready if they work fast.
After getting ready, everyone goes to the kitchen for breakfast. Blue gives Steve a list of things to do. Eating breakfast is the first item. Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, and Paprika serve lots of food. While they eat, they talk about the music show. Periwinkle listens in, thinking it's a magic show. He then leaves to practice his tricks.
Finding a New Singing Partner
Steve crosses breakfast off his list. The friends talk about their acts. Slippery Soap wants to be a boat captain. Shovel and Pail will sing about being animal doctors. Mailbox plans to be a comedian. Blue and Tickety plan to sing a duet about being teachers.
But Tickety's voice becomes raspy. Steve says she can still help by ringing her bells. This leaves Blue without a singing partner. Blue is sad, but Tickety tells her not to give up. Blue agrees and decides to play Blue's Clues. They will find out who her new partner will be.
Steve adds finding the partner to the list. He goes to get his notebook from Sidetable Drawer. Mr. Salt calls Steve for help in the kitchen. While Steve is gone, Sidetable sings sadly. She wants to be in the show but is too shy to say so. When Steve returns, Sidetable tries to tell him. But she gives up and lets him take the notebook. Steve wants to make up a song for the show. He adds it to the list.
Clues, Hats, and Magic Tricks
Steve looks for clues outside. He wishes he could find a clue by himself. But the first clue is on his notebook! The viewers point it out. Steve praises their clue-finding skills.
Periwinkle secretly takes Steve's list. He hides it under a cape and makes it "appear." He leaves the list on a table. Steve finds the clipboard. Sidetable tries to talk to Steve again. But Slippery calls Steve to help with hats. Sidetable is left alone. She promises herself she will tell Steve this time.
Slippery and Steve come in with many hats. They sing a song called "Silly Hat." Sidetable tries to talk to Steve again. Her shyness stops her. She just says she wants to help. Steve asks her to hold the hats. This makes her sad. Other friends bring props. Steve helps them finish the stage. He checks costumes and stage off the list.
Periwinkle appears again to show magic. But Mr. Salt needs Steve's help in the kitchen. Mr. Salt is looking for chocolate chips. While Steve is gone, Periwinkle shows a trick. He makes a green knob "disappear." He hides it behind him. He leaves, showing a clue on a different knob.
Steve returns and is sad he didn't find the clue. He realizes he left his notebook inside. Periwinkle returns and sees Steve left. He wishes Steve could see his tricks. Steve draws the knob in his notebook. There is one clue left. Mr. Salt brings cookies. Steve checks snacks off the list. They still need to finish their song.
Writing a Song and Finding the Last Clue
Blue, Steve, and the viewers skidoo into a music sheet. Steve meets a friendly G Clef. G Clef offers to help him write a song. Steve learns about high and low notes. The notes sing about putting notes together. Steve also learns about rhythm and tempo.
Steve comes up with "beep bop bay." But it feels incomplete. G Clef tells him music comes from inside. Steve creates a complete song. Now, only the last clue is left on the list.
As Steve searches, Periwinkle appears again. He wants to show a magic trick. But Steve is called to help Slippery. Periwinkle complains that Steve is too busy. Slippery is worried he will slip on stage. Steve tells him not to give up. Slippery feels better. Back in the real world, Sidetable tries to tell Steve her wish. She fails again. Steve asks her to collect tickets.
The Big Reveal and the Show
Steve tries to find the third clue himself. He can't find it. His friends sing to him: "Don't give up, just go on." Steve keeps looking. He bumps into boxes. A cardboard drawer falls into his hands. It's the final clue! It's also Steve's very first clue he found alone!
Steve draws the clue and goes to the Thinking Chair. He and the viewers figure out Blue wants Sidetable to be her partner. Steve checks clues off the list. He goes to tell Sidetable. But he remembers she was collecting tickets. Steve and his friends look for her.
They find Sidetable hiding. She thinks she won't be in the show. She is too shy to ask. She sings her song again. Periwinkle compliments her. She feels happy and ready to tell Steve. Periwinkle gets an idea for a magic trick. He will make Sidetable "appear." He hides her under his cape. He calls everyone over. Steve and his friends arrive. Periwinkle tells them to say "Peri pocus, hocus crocus!"
The trick works! Sidetable tells Steve she wants to sing. Steve tells her Blue wants her as a partner. Periwinkle is confused. He thought it was a magic show. Everyone explains it's a music show. They can sing, dance, tell jokes, and wear costumes. Periwinkle is sad because magic is his strength, not singing. Tickety tells him not to give up. She suggests he do something else.
Purple Kangaroo says the crowd is waiting. But no one is ready! Mailbox forgot jokes. Slippery has no costume. Blue and Sidetable need practice. Shovel and Pail need animals. Tickety says they need more time. Steve tells everyone to practice. He asks Periwinkle to entertain the audience with magic.
Everyone gets ready backstage. The audience loves Periwinkle's tricks. Finally, everyone is ready. Periwinkle does his last trick. Slippery goes on stage and slips. Everyone tells him not to give up. Slippery gets up and continues. Shovel and Pail do their doctor act. Mailbox tells a joke. Blue and Sidetable sing their duet. Tickety rings her bells. Steve sings his song, overcoming his nerves. Everyone joins in for the main song. The show ends with everyone thanking the viewers. Steve tells everyone to take a bow.
