Blue Creek is a small community in Adams County, Ohio, United States. It is not a city or town, but a group of homes and businesses. You can find it in western Jefferson Township, along State Route 125. Blue Creek even has its own post office with the ZIP code 45616.
History of Blue Creek
Blue Creek got its first post office way back in 1844. It closed for a while in 1907 but opened again in 1933. The community is named after a nearby stream called Blue Creek.
In 2007, the US Congress decided to name the post office in Blue Creek after George B. Lewis. This was a special way to honor him.
Famous People from Blue Creek
Blue Creek has been home to some interesting people!
- Cowboy Copas was a famous country music singer.
- Asa Jewett played basketball as a center for the Ohio Bobcats team in 1999-2000.
- Philip Lewis Sr. was an important person who settled in Blue Creek in 1796. He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, which is a group of people who make laws for the state of Ohio. He is buried in the local cemetery.
- Austin McHenry was a baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals team. Sadly, he passed away at his home in Blue Creek when he was only 27 years old in 1922.
- Wiley Piatt was also a baseball player.
