History of Bluegrove
Bluegrove started to welcome new settlers in 1882. Three men named E.A. Copp, L.B. Brown, and E.M. Childs helped people move to the area. The community got its name from the post oak trees nearby. From a distance, these trees looked like a blue grove.
Soon after, a man named A.W. Flynn opened a general store. This store became a busy place where local farmers and ranchers could ship their goods. A post office was set up in Bluegrove in 1895, making it easier to send and receive mail.
The number of people living in Bluegrove grew steadily. In the 1920s, the population reached its highest point, with 240 residents. However, over the next two decades, the population started to shrink. From the 1950s all the way through 2000, about 125 people lived in Bluegrove. Today, Bluegrove is the main office for the JAC Electric Cooperative. This company provides electricity to homes and farms in Clay, Jack, and Archer counties.
