Bluffton is a small community located in western Montgomery County, Missouri, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
Where is Bluffton?
Bluffton is easy to find on Route 94. It's about ten miles (16 kilometers) west of a town called Hermann. The community is also very close to the famous Missouri River.
How Did Bluffton Start?
Bluffton was officially planned and laid out in 1866. This process is called "platting." The community got its name from the tall cliffs, or "bluffs," that are found near the Missouri River where the original town site was located.
A post office was opened in Bluffton in 1867. This post office helped the community send and receive mail for many years. It stayed open for nearly a century, finally closing its doors in 1966.
