Blumfield Township's Story

Blumfield Township was started in 1853. It was founded by Carl Post and George F. Veenfliet. They named it after Robert Blum. Around 1880, the area had one sawmill and many farms.

Most of the early settlers were immigrants from Germany. These were people who supported the 1848 reforms in Germany. They left their home country after these reforms were put down.

Arthur (Blumfield Junction)

  • Arthur, also known as Blumfield Junction, was a small community. It had a train station on a branch of the Michigan Central Railroad.
  • A post office was open here from 1862 to 1880. It reopened as Arthur from 1880 to 1904.
  • This community was located on M-15.

Blumfield Corners

  • Blumfield Corners is a small unincorporated community. This means it's a recognized place but doesn't have its own local government.
  • It is located on M-15 at Block Road.

Frankentrost (Trostville)

  • Frankentrost (sometimes called Trostville) is another small unincorporated community.

  • This community was started in 1847. It was founded by a group of Lutheran immigrants from Bavaria.

Reese Village

  • The village of Reese is mostly in Tuscola County.
  • However, some parts of Reese have grown into Blumfield Township.
