Melvin Dell "Bo" Robinson Jr. (born May 27, 1956) is a former American football player. He played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons. He was part of the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, and New England Patriots teams. Bo Robinson was chosen by the Lions in the third round of the 1979 NFL draft. Before that, he played college football at West Texas State University.

College Football Star

Bo Robinson played college football for the West Texas State Buffaloes. He played from 1975 to 1978. In 1975, as a freshman, he ran for 538 yards and scored five touchdowns. The next year, in 1976, he gained 725 yards and scored three touchdowns.

His best college year was 1977. He rushed for an amazing 1,399 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. He led the Missouri Valley Conference in both of these categories. In his final year, 1978, he ran for 880 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Bo Robinson's Professional Football Career

Joining the Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions picked Bo Robinson in the 1979 NFL draft. He was the 67th player chosen overall. In his first year, 1979, he played in 14 games and started 12 of them. He ran for 302 yards and scored two touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 118 yards. In 1980, he played in 14 games but had fewer carries, gaining only two yards. The Lions released him in August 1981.

Playing for the Atlanta Falcons

Bo Robinson then signed with the Atlanta Falcons in September 1981. He played in 15 games that season, rushing for 24 yards. In 1982, he played in nine games. He ran for 108 yards and caught seven passes for 55 yards, scoring two touchdowns. He also played in one playoff game that year. In 1983, he played in 12 games and started nine. He caught 12 passes for 100 yards. The Falcons waived him in August 1984.

Time with the New England Patriots

The New England Patriots picked up Bo Robinson in August 1984. He played in all 16 games for them that year, starting one. He caught four passes for 32 yards and scored one touchdown. In September 1985, he was placed on injured reserve. This meant he couldn't play for the whole 1985 season due to an injury. He was placed on injured reserve again in August 1986. He was then released by the Patriots in September 1986.
