Bob Kendrick, born on June 15, 1962, is the President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM). This important museum is located in Kansas City, Missouri. Before becoming President, he worked as the museum's first Director of Marketing. He later became Vice President of Marketing in 2009. After a short time working elsewhere, he came back to the NLBM in 2011.
Helping the Museum Grow
Bob Kendrick has created many special programs and events for the museum. One of these is the Hall of Game. This event celebrates great players from Major League Baseball. It honors those who played with the same spirit as players in the Negro leagues.
In early 2020, the museum had to close because of COVID-19. This was also the 100th anniversary of the Negro leagues starting. During this time, Bob Kendrick led the NLBM's Tipping Your Cap campaign. This was an online effort to show respect to the early Negro leagues players. These players did not get to play in the Major Leagues until Jackie Robinson joined the Dodgers in 1947. Many important people, including all former US Presidents, took part in this campaign.
The museum reopened in mid-June 2020. Bob Kendrick said it was more important than ever to be open. He believes people need to see the challenges African-Americans faced. But they also need to see their amazing successes.
