Robert Lee Nash (born August 24, 1950), known as Bob Nash, is a former American professional basketball player and coach. He played college basketball for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. He was chosen as the ninth overall pick in the 1972 NBA draft. Nash played for six seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Detroit Pistons and Kansas City Kings. He also played in other leagues like the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the Continental Basketball Association (CBA).

After his playing days, Nash became a basketball coach. He spent twenty years as an assistant coach for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. Later, he became their head coach in 2007 for three seasons. Nash then moved to Japan in 2010. There, he coached several teams, including the Saitama Broncos, Toyama Grouses, and Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka.

Playing Career

Bob Nash graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1968. He then played college basketball for the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He was part of one of the school's most successful men's basketball teams in the early 1970s.

Nash played professionally during the 1970s. He was a member of the Detroit Pistons and the Kansas City Kings in the NBA. He also played for the San Diego Conquistadors in the ABA. In the 1979–80 season, he played for the Hawaii Volcanos in the CBA.

Coaching Career

In 1987, Bob Nash started his coaching career. He became an assistant coach at the University of Hawaii. He held this position for twenty years. In April 2007, he was promoted to head coach. He took over after coach Riley Wallace retired.

Nash coached the Hawaii team for three seasons. He had a record of 34 wins and 56 losses during his time as head coach. After the 2009–10 season, he left the team.

In 2010, Nash moved to Japan. He became the head coach of the Saitama Broncos in the bj league. His son, Bobby, also played for the team. Nash left the team after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami in March 2011. The team had to stop playing for the rest of that season.

From 2012 to 2017, Nash coached the Toyama Grouses in the bj league. He led them to be Eastern Conference Champions in the 2015-16 season. Later, he coached the Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka in the 2018-19 season.

In 2004, Bob Nash was honored for his achievements. He was inducted into the Hartford Public High School Hall of Fame.
