Early Life and Career Beginnings

Bob Yari was born into a Jewish family in Tehran, the capital of Iran. When he was young, his family moved to New York City. He later went to college at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he studied filmmaking.

In the 1980s, Yari started his career working for another producer, Edgar Scherick. In 1989, he directed and produced his very first movie, Mind Games. After this, he took a break from the movie business for about ten years. During that time, he worked on building large shopping centers, like the Greenspoint Mall in Houston, Texas.

Return to Filmmaking

In the early 2000s, Yari returned to making movies. He created several production companies to finance and produce films. Over the next ten years, he produced more than 40 movies.

Some of his most famous films from this time include:

  • Crash, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
  • The Illusionist, a magical story starring Edward Norton.

  • The Agent Cody Banks movies, which are fun spy comedies for families.

He also produced documentaries, which are films about real-life events and people. These included Tyson, about the famous boxer, and Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a concert film.

In 2016, Yari directed Papa: Hemingway in Cuba. This movie was special because it was the first American film in over 50 years to be filmed in Havana, Cuba.

Yari also brought his producing talents to television. In 2008, he created a TV series called Crash, based on his successful movie.

Later, he partnered with 101 Studios to produce several hit shows for the Paramount network. His biggest TV success is Yellowstone, a modern Western drama. He also produced its prequel series, 1883 and 1923, which tell the history of the family from Yellowstone.

Other popular shows he has produced include:

  • Mayor of Kingstown
  • Tulsa King
  • Special Ops: Lioness
