Rising Through the Ranks
Bobby worked his way up through the minor leagues. In 1969, he had an amazing season in the Double-A Southern League. He was even named an All-Star! That year, he led the league in runs scored with 102. He also hit 23 home runs and had 100 runs batted in (RBI).
Making it to the Major Leagues
Because of his great performance, Bobby was called up to the Oakland Athletics in September 1969. He played in 29 games for Oakland that year. He started 21 of those games as an outfielder. He hit three home runs and brought in ten runs, with a batting average of .241.
However, this was his longest time playing in the big leagues. Over the next four years, he played in only 26 more MLB games. He spent most of his time in Triple-A, which is just below the major leagues. He finished his professional baseball career in 1975 after playing for two years in the Mexican League.
