Bomani Parker (born September 30, 1967), whose birth name was Parker White, is an American boxer. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. His parents moved to California shortly after he was born.
Bomani Parker's Early Boxing Days
Bomani Parker started his boxing journey in West Oakland, California. He trained at the local Boys and Girls Club. When he was 19, he weighed about 165 pounds. He fought as a southpaw, which means he boxed left-handed.
In 1986, Parker became a National Golden Gloves Champion. This is a big award for amateur boxers in the United States. He also joined the American Olympic boxing team that year. He competed in the Goodwill Games, which are like mini-Olympics. Parker was very good at beating Russian boxers, winning against them six times. This was a record for an American boxer at the time! He also had a great record against boxers from Cuba, winning four times. In 1988, Parker competed in a big championship fight during the Olympic Trials against Alfred Cole.
Turning Professional
Parker began his professional boxing career on October 13, 1988. As he got stronger, he moved up to heavier weight classes. On October 2, 1991, he won the WBC Light Heavyweight Continental Americas title. This was a major achievement in his professional career.
Parker kept moving up in weight, fighting as a cruiserweight and then a heavyweight by 1995. His professional record was 14 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw. His boxing career was interrupted for a long period. He later tried to make a comeback in 2012. In his return fight, he lost to Rodney Hernandez.
