Boneau is a small community located in Chouteau County, Montana, in the United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for collecting statistics. In 2020, about 365 people lived in Boneau. The population has grown quite a bit over the years. In 2000, there were 190 people, and by 2010, it had increased to 380.

Geography of Boneau
Boneau is found in the northeastern part of Chouteau County. It is located at specific coordinates: 48.290258 degrees North and -109.860880 degrees West.
Location and Surroundings
Boneau is part of the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation. This reservation belongs to the Chippewa-Cree Tribe. To the east of Boneau, you'll find another community called Sangrey. Boneau is also on the western edge of the Bear Paw Mountains. The town of Box Elder is about 8 miles (13 km) to the west. U.S. Route 87 is also nearby.

The Boneau CDP covers a total area of about 2.47 square miles (6.41 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 2.37 square miles (6.15 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.10 square miles (0.26 square kilometers), is water. Boneau Reservoir is a notable water feature. It is located in the northeastern part of the CDP on Boxelder Creek. Boxelder Creek flows west and eventually joins Big Sandy Creek, which is a branch of the Milk River.

In 2000, there were 190 people living in Boneau. These people lived in 42 households, and 40 of these were families. Most of the residents in 2000 were Native American. A small percentage were White.
