Discovering Bonnells Bay's Past

How Bonnells Bay Got Its Name

Before 1948, this area was known as Morisset East. It was later named Bonnells Bay after the Bonnell family. William F. Bonnell was one of the first people to settle here. The family also has a part of Lake Macquarie named after them, called Bonnells Bay.

Early Days and Growth

The land in Bonnells Bay was first divided into smaller pieces in 1886. However, a proper town didn't start to form until after World War II. The town really began to grow in the 1980s. This was after the Eraring Power Station was built nearby.

A school, Bonnells Bay Public School, opened its doors in 1912. It has been an important part of the community ever since.

Bonnells Bay Today
