The lagoon sits a few kilometers south of the Macintyre River. It is also just north of the road that connects Mungindi and Goondiwindi. Water from the lagoon flows into the Macintyre River through a channel. This channel is called Boobera Watercourse.
Cultural Significance
Boobera Lagoon is very important to the Aboriginal people of the area. They believe it is the resting place of Garriya. Garriya is known as the Rainbow Serpent. The Rainbow Serpent is a powerful and important figure. It plays a big role in Dreamtime stories. Dreamtime is a time when the world was created. It also explains how people and animals came to be.
